The Ashmolean Museum is the University of Oxford’s museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683, and is Britain's oldest public museum. Amongst a huge collection with many strength, there are not too many 20th Century Collections that can boast, as the Ashmolean can, works by Matisse, Picasso, Braque and Kandinsky, as well as a representative collection of early 20th Century French artists, including works by all members of the Pissarro family of artists. Other particular strengths, following the Ethel Sands bequest, are a group of paintings by Sickert, and the other Camden Town Group of artists are well represented too.

Artists featured in this Curation: Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944), Robert Sargent Austin (1895–1973), Michael Ayrton (1921–1975), Robert Polhill Bevan (1865–1925), Jacques-Emile Blanche (1861–1942), David Bomberg (1890–1957), Pierre Bonnard (1867–1947), Georges Braque (1882–1963), David Young Cameron (1865–1945), Sydney William Carline (1888–1929), and 80 more
