Orovida Pissarro (1893–1968) commissioned this portrait from Weight in 1956. Weight painted two different versions: one now in Tate Britain shows the sitter seen from above, while the version in the Ashmolean shows her on the same level. The book open in front of her is her father's 'Catalogue de gravures sur bois', which she bequeathed to the Ashmolean.
