Outside the Tate in London, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge probably has the strongest collection of artworks by artists working in France in the first half of the 20th Century: Rodin, Redon, Renoir, Rouault, Matisse, Maillol, Picasso, Derain, Dufy, Léger, Giacometti, Modigliani, Marquet, Bonnard and Vuillard are all represented, alongside a James Ensor, relatively rarely represented in UK art collections. The collection's 20th Century collection of British sculpture and abstract painting from the 1950s and 1960s are two other particular strengths, alongside a good selection from the Camden Town Group.

Artists featured in this Curation: Georges Braque (1882–1963), Vanessa Bell (1879–1961), Robert Polhill Bevan (1865–1925), Pierre Bonnard (1867–1947), Reg Butler (1913–1981), Rosemary Young (1930–2019), David Young Cameron (1865–1945), Lynn Chadwick (1914–2003), Harold Cohen (1928–2016), Alan Davie (1920–2014), and 92 more
