The Royal College of Art Collection is an invaluable resource of over 1,000 works that represent significant developments in British painting, principally from the middle years of the last century to the present day. It is made up of works donated by painting graduates and staff. The Collection began when the painter Sir William Rothenstein was appointed Rector in 1920, but the major developments were made from 1948 following the appointment of Sir Robin Darwin. It covers several particularly vibrant periods in the history of painting at the RCA including works from the Kitchen Sink School of the 1950s, British Pop Art of the 1960s and the YBAs (Young British Artists) of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Artists featured in this Curation: Roy Abell (1931–2020), Norman Adams (1927–2005), Colin Gard Allen (1926–1987), Frank Helmuth Auerbach (1931–2024), John Bellany (1942–2013), Adrian Berg (1929–2011), Peter Blake (b.1932), Robert T.
