Artist in oil and watercolour and teacher, of Chinese nationality, born in Singapore. He was educated at PLA Art Academy, Beijing; at Wimbledon School of Art, under William Furlong; then gained his master’s degree at Royal College of Art with Paul Huxley. From 1974–89 he was a full-time artist working for the Peking Naval and Military Museum, in 1986 being a tutor for the Peking Movie Academy. In 1987 Mao was vice-professor for the Bei Lee College, China, in 1989 artist for the Museum of Chinese Anti-Japanese War. Among commissions were designs for China’s National Olympics from 1975; The Ancient Sailings, an oil painting for the Chinese Scientific Station at the South Pole, 1985; The Opium War, an oil for The Museum of Canton, 1986; and artistic consultancies in Singapore, 1988–90.
