Collecting artworks since 1883, the Gallery is especially known for its Charles Lee Collection of oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and engravings, presented to the town in 1888. It has an additionally fine selection of Modern British Art from the 20th Century amongst the more than 2,000 artworks in its collection. Developed in association with Grant Waters, Art Detective Group Leader: South East England, East England and the Midlands.
