Harold Workman was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England on 3 October 1897 and studied at Oldham School of Art and Manchester School of Art. He subsequently worked as a painter. He was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy in London from 1936 to 1956 and at the New English Art Club in London from 1937 to 1951. He also exhibited at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in London; Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; and at the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy, Wales. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in 1937. Workman was noted for his paintings of landscapes and townscapes.
