Even leaving to one side the town of Dieppe, covered in a separate Curation, the Normandy coastline has long been a favourite place of French artists as well as those from the United Kingdom. This stretch of Normandy coastline starts with representations of Trouville and Deauville, frequently painted by Eugène Louis Boudin, but perhaps most often remembered are those depictions of the seaside resorts by Raoul Dufy. The beaches associated with the D Day landings in 1944 are the ones seen in wartime artists in the United Kingdom, particularly in the work of Stephen Bone. The Curation then passes through the Cherbourg peninsula and ends with a group of paintings of Mont St Michel, the tidal island just a kilometre off the coastline.
