The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), opened in 1996, is housed in an 18th-century neoclassical building in Glasgow city centre. It displays art by local, national and international artists. Works from the collection are rotated frequently and the gallery hosts numerous temporary exhibitions. Displays are drawn from our collection of 20th-century British, particularly Scottish, paintings, drawings, prints and photographs. Sculpture, video and installations can also be seen here and reflect a new emphasis on collecting work by a younger generation of Scottish artists. The collection boasts work by recent Turner Prize and Beck’s Futures Prize winners, including Grayson Perry, Simon Starling, Douglas Gordon, Roderick Buchanan and Toby Paterson. Glasgow Museums, in partnership with The Common Guild, were awarded an Art Fund International grant in 2007. This has made possible exciting purchases of works by international artists to provide a context for our contemporary Scottish collection. The gallery has an active outreach programme and small balcony galleries are used to show the work of collaborative arts projects involving community groups and artists.
