More about

The bequest of William Shaw (1898–1990) of his ordinary Edwardian semi-detached house and all its accumulated contents over 60 years is the nearest thing to a time capsule that the National Trust has ever received. Time has stood still here since the death of his father, a successful Worksop local grocer and seed-merchant, in 1932 – the year of the calendar which still hangs on the wall of the front room. It is interesting that there are any pictures here at all, most of them are anonymous, but the 'Portrait of an Unknown Woman in a Black Tippet, Straw Hat and Pearls' has appeal.
