A pink granite monolith with relief carving and inscription on one face. Originally erected at Nitshill station in Glasgow in memory of the only Scottish railwayman to be awarded the Victoria Cross in WW1, the memorial was relocated to Dingwall following repeated vandalism. John Meikle singlehandedly took out a German machine-gun post in the First World War. The 19–year-old was armed with only a pistol and the walking stick he liked to carry, when he achieved this feat during the second battle of the Marne in 1918.
