This work is a copy of a painting titled 'Little Timidity' by Frederick Samuel Beaumont (1861–1954) which appeared at the Royal Academy in 1885 (No. 498). Beaumont gives his address at the time as 21 Howland Street, London. Knowles gives that same address for his 1885 entry to the RA. Sir Merton Russell-Cotes purchased 'Her First Love' from The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, from the Autumn Exhibition of 1885.
