Painter and teacher, born in Cowdenbeath, Fife. He studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1950–6, then went on to teach at Keith Grammar School, 1957–8, becoming a part-time lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, 1959–66, from 1967 full-time. He was a visiting lecturer in 1970 at Michaelis School of Fine Arts, Rhodes University, Cape Town; in 1986 at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee; and in 1987 at Millersville University, Pennsylvania. He was elected RSW, Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and RSA in 1989. Among Robertson’s solo shows were Douglas and Foulis Gallery, Edinburgh, 1961; Gallery 10; several at Christopher Hull; and Portland Gallery. There was a retrospective in 2000 at the Mackintosh Gallery, Glasgow, with a well-illustrated catalogue.
