Currently closed for redevelopment, Derby Silk Mill is nearing the end of a five year £17m programme to create the Museum of Making on the site of the world’s first factory, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Derby City Council, Arts Council England and the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.
Celebrating the area’s rich history of innovation, the Museum of Making in the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site will be a contemporary space telling Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity. Designed and made by the people and industries of Derby with exhibits, workshops, activities and events, there will be something here for everyone.
