More about

The Highland Collection consists mainly of the work of artists from the Highlands of Scotland, purchased from temporary touring exhibitions, many of whom now have national and international reputations. This was supplemented by part of the Scottish Arts Council Collection Bequest which came to the Highlands when the Scottish Arts Council dismantled their permanent collection in 2001. The High Life Highland Exhibitions Unit manages the Highland Collection and the SAC Bequest for the Highland Council. Based at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, the HLH Exhibitions Unit draws on the collections in curating temporary exhibitions to tour to four public galleries across the Highlands. The aim is to have the collection out in the community rather than exclusively in the gallery and the works are also made available to schools and other public buildings. Both collections consist of work from the last 30 years of Scottish art and include early and formative work from many renowned artists. Highlights include works by Adrian Wiszniewski, Robin Philipson and Neil Macpherson. The collection and facilities at this location are managed by High Life Highland on behalf of Highland Council.
