Following a public competition for artists to produce pieces in any medium to encompass the topic 'Health and Wellbeing', several artworks were commissioned and now form a small but interesting collection in the Fort William Health Centre, built in 2008. The aim of the project was to ensure that inspirational artwork was used to enhance and make the Health Centre unique and welcoming.
The artworks celebrate the culture within the Lochaber area and ensure that the building is one that the whole community can be proud of. All the artwork on permanent display has been produced by Lochaber based artists apart from two commissions which were awarded to other Scottish artists. The project was financed by Year of Highland Culture 2007, PMP Plus, NHS Highland, Craig Nevis, Glen Mor and Tweeddale Medical Practices and Alcan Primary Metals (Europe) Fort William.
Paintings in the collection include 'The Gathering – An Trusadh' by Alistair Smyth, 'Late Night Session – Ceilidh Oidhche' by Andrew Sinclair, 'Aonach Dubh' by Andrew Stewart and 'Grandmothering Earth' by James McCallum.
