Kemp and his men dressed in Elizabethan costume are shown dancing round the base of the tree. Kemp is singled out by his trousers secured by Morris bells and dancing step while his companions play the pipes and drum. They are accompanied by a figure writing on a scroll representing William Shakespeare. It was intended to mark the jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II by celebrating Will Kemp's dance 'out of this world' to Norwich early in 1600.
