Painter, sculptor, teacher and printmaker, born in London as Alan Mark Goldsworthy. He attended Great Yarmouth College of Art & Design, Medlock Fine Art Centre and Manchester Polytechnic, 1983–6. After a three-month tour of European countries and their galleries Goldsworthy set up studio in St Mary’s Works, Norwich, helped organise several shows for Contact Gallery, an artists’ co-operative. He was also an itinerant artist in South Africa, 1989–90, in 1991 visited America and was artist-in-residence for Circus Project at King’s Lynn Arts Centre, other residencies including Holt Country Park, Norfolk, 1993 and 1994, also Ickworth House, Suffolk, 1994. In 1992, Goldsworthy completed his first hand-made book of lino-cuts, Siddartha; in 1994 created the stage set for the Rolling Stones’ world tour; and in 1998 formed the Broad Street Guild, a workshop of four craftsmen.
