A statue of infantryman with rifle and fixed bayonet looking to his left supported by a tree stump. The soldier's rifle looks realistic, appearing to be made of wood with metal working parts. The sculpture is mounted on a plain square plan Doric column which stands on a plinth. On the front of the plinth is a wreath and anchor in relief. The memorial stands on a three-stepped base, and the whole is located within a square enclosure fitted with a surrounding kerb and four corner vases.
