William Darling McKay, RSA, Club President from 1899–1904, did much of his pastoral landscape painting in East Lothian, and his gentle scenes, usually of modest scale and frequently introducing the figures of farm workers, are presently enjoying a re-appreciation. McKay was an extremely active artist, RSA Librarian for 11 years and its secretary for 17.
