More about

The Scottish Arts Club, located in Edinburgh, is pleased to have its permanent collection of art works join Art UK. Founded in 1874, the Club is a private club with a membership composed of professional practitioners as well as persons with an avid interest in all the arts, many of whom take part in its studio sessions and in its semi-annual members’ exhibitions. The Club is very active in the visual arts, and its various exhibitions are open to the public. There are solo and multi-artist exhibitions featuring work in oil- and water-based media, sculpture, photography, graphics, and 3D media. In addition, the Club hosts the Scottish Portrait Awards in Fine Arts and Photography, and the work of visiting artists from the Glasgow Art Club and the Scottish Society of Architect-Artists. It gives an annual Award to, and mounts a solo exhibition from, a selected artist exhibiting in the Royal Scottish Academy’s Annual Exhibition, as well as ones from the annual exhibitions of the Society of Scottish Artists, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, and Visual Arts Scotland. Saturday talks are given on a wide variety of artistic and other subjects, and the Club links with and supports the Scottish Arts Trust with its annual awards for short-story writing, portraiture, and landscapes. In addition to the frequent shows by living artists, the Club draws upon works from the Club’s historic permanent collection of some 200 items to curate special themed exhibitions. Making these artworks available on Art UK will now enable a much larger audience to enjoy the collection’s broad range of landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still lifes and abstract art executed in many media, including sculptures.
