The statue was commissioned by the Parish Council from Paul Richardson, who lives in Capel St Andrew, to commemorate the millennium. This impressive over life-size figure stands against a sculpted tree trunk, rising up to display the name of the village in bold lettering. The group is set against the wall of a long barn, besides a cross roads. The saint is shown as a fisherman holding fish and an eel, with a shield with his cross behind him. A small bird nests in the tree and a doe emerges from behind the tree trunk. The church at his feet is a reconstruction of the parish church, documented by 1529 but demolished, presumably as a result of the Reformation, by 1553. Some masonry remains were uncovered during farming at Church Farm.
