This landscape painting is impressionist in style, bordering on abstract. The use of oil paint applied in layers gives an impasto effect giving the work a textural quality, which emphasises the abstract patterns of nature.

Robert Henderson Blyth, RSW, ARSA, RSA, was born in Glasgow, studied at Glasgow School of Art and taught as Head of Drawing and Painting at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen (1960–1970).
