This drawing of Stonehouse Creek, looking from Stoke to Sound, with Millbay and Drake's Island to the East, Stonehouse Creek and Mount Edgcumbe to the South West is one of the earliest known depictions of Plymouth. It was made by Wenceslaus Hollar, an artist from Bohemia (the present-day Czech Republic) who lived in England. A widely circulated set of prints were made from these drawings and were how Europe learned of Britain’s port cities.
