The monument commemorates the 'R101' airship disaster, victims of which are buried in a mass grave beneath. The monument takes the form of a large stone tomb chest of simple design, set on a three-tiered base. There are fluted piers set into the corners, and the side and end panels are framed by simple mouldings.
