John Yeadon was a course tutor on the Fine Art MA course, teaching at Coventry Polytechnic for 30 years. He uses this work to make a point about the experiences of gay people in society. He does this in a humorous way through the use of cartoon or graffiti-like drawing. Yeadon also demonstrates more traditional drawing skills. The pose of the figure on the right is based on Michelangelo’s famous statue of David. The artist throws almost everything into the ring to create his 'disco' effects – glitter, fluorescent paint and flashing coloured lights.
