Square-section broken-topped pillar (slightly higher than its sister piece, the Britten Memorial) around which is inscribed an Auden quote. The column commemorates the poet W.H. Auden who was a former pupil at Gresham's. Placed to the south of the school's chapel it serves as a reminder of the breaking of bread at the communion service.
