Artist Iain McColl was an official war artist sent to record the conflict in Bosnia in the early 1990s. His series of drawings entitled 'Cleansed' refer to the ethnic cleansing he witnessed. He gives little visual detail about these figures but is isolated against their black backgrounds, pushed down low in the picture frame. With their distorted, anguished features, McColl expresses the human horror and suffering brought about by the war.
