Shapes and images reflect Brunel’s life and achievements. These images range from the collapse of the Thames Tunnel to the prow of the Great Britain, and they are laid over the aluminium shapes, which were inspired by a variety of Brunel’s designs, including a hull plate from the Great Western and a rudder design. The origin of the imagery and of the distinctive shapes is not easy to recognise, but displayed nearby is an exemplary explanation of each one. The project group behind this mural involved artists, together with the lead artist Steve Joyce, and the project coordinator Jade Wood.
