This artwork is shown both pre-conservation (the darker image) and post-conservation. The conservation took place in 2018–2019 by Simon Gillespie Studio as part of the BBC Four series 'Britain's Lost Masterpieces'.

Research into the attribution of the painting is ongoing. While the programme concluded that figures were probably painted in the workshop of Jan Bruegel the younger, more recently the balance of opinion has shifted towards an attribution to the workshop of his father, Jan Breughel the elder.
