'Aftermath' was commissioned via a student competition as part of the development of Shirley Pearce Square in 2014, and is one of the most ambitious student sculptures realised on the campus of a UK university. Its beacon-like form is suggestive of the sporting prowess with which the University is so strongly associated, while its highly reflective surface changes with the light and is intended to inspire an introspective mood in the viewer. During Graduation ceremonies the work turns into a fountain with water cascading over its form, suggestive of a new beginning for graduates. Ian Tricker studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, graduating in 2013. He was selected for the prestigious Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition in 2014, and graduated with a Masters in Sculpture from the Royal College of Arts in 2022.
