The Philosopher in his study by Rembrandt. NB This picture formerly belonged to John Collet M.P. for South Lincoln and is considered by the chief Conoisseurs in London to be the work of Rembrandt. Some seen it in more of the manner of Victor his pupil A.A.N. Label on stretcher (left corner missing) : ..... his Study, asleep with his hand resting on a skull. [s]old (about 1850) to Dr. John Cargill in Newcastle-on-Tyne, as believed by his to be genuine, though later opinions regard it .... work of
