Painter in oil, acrylic and watercolour, born and lived in St Ives, Cornwall. Until 1985 he was a fisherman, then the St Ives harbour-master. He became a Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboatman in 1964, then coxswain of the St Ives lifeboat in 1989. He painted from 1987, studying at the St Ives School of Painting under Roy Ray. Ward described his work as “between figurative and abstract. Subject matter is not the most important aspect, but is a vehicle by which the painting surface may be explored.” Group shows included Drawn from Life, Penwith Gallery, St Ives, 1988; 100 Years of Cornish Painting, Armada Gallery, Plymouth, 1994; Cassian Gallery, Lincoln, 1995; and Walker Galleries, Harrogate, 1996. Shared shows with John Emanuel at Sims Gallery, St Ives, from 1995.
