Painter, designer, muralist, printmaker and teacher, born in Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire. He attended Glasgow School of Art, 1948–52, specialising in graphic design, then after a post-diploma year went on to teach art at Lenzie Academy, later becoming department head at Clydebank High School. Resigned from teaching in 1987 to freelance full-time. Rodgers’ talents were very varied, encompassing a set of Scottish historical playing cards; a memorial stained glass window at Kippen Parish Church; and Historic Monuments and Buildings commissions, including a mural, lino-cuts and line drawings about the whisky industry, another being concerned with the history of Rothesay. Illustrated books included Monica Clough’s The Field of Thistles, 1986, and Behind the Lines, 1989.
