
Painter whose work showed a strong Fauve influence, born in Hawick, Roxburghshire, where his father, also a painter, published the local newspaper. After Edinburgh College of Art, 1926–30, where his teachers included William Gillies and D M Sutherland, in 1933 McNairn studied with Othon Friesz at Académie Scandinave, Paris. After World War II McNairn settled in Selkirk, and showed in Scotland. Robert Fleming Holdings has his work.
