Printmaker, painter, designer and teacher, born in Cape Town, South Africa. Classified as a Cape Coloured, this had a marked effect on him and the direction of his art against racial oppression worldwide. He studied at the School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, 1966–9, and won a scholarship to the Hochschule für Bildende Kunst, in Hamburg, Germany, 1970–2. Worked with the Poster Collective in London in 1976 during a short visit, settling in Britain in 1982. He went on to become senior lecturer at Chelsea School of Art. Was also a member of the Arts Council from 1986. Took part widely in group shows in Britain and abroad, solo exhibitions including ICA, 1976, a series at Edward Totah Gallery from 1980 and Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry, 1988.
