Sculptor of animals, draughtsman and etcher. He was educated and studied art in Vienna at the Kunstgewerbeschule, 1912–15, and began to exhibit widely on the continent. Settled in England and showed at the RA, RSA, with the Arts Council of Great Britain and elsewhere, as well as continuing to show widely on the continent and in North America. He completed public sculpture in Britain and abroad. Extensive one-man shows, including Venice Biennale, 1958, a series in London from 1938–60, and in Columbus, Ohio, 1948. His work was widely reproduced and is in many public collections, including Tate Gallery, British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. Lived in London.
