
Studied at the South Kensington Art School, studying under Edward Poynter, and later continued his studies in Paris. From the 1880s until 1928 he exhibited widely, specialising in portraits of both society ladies and public figures. In 1891, he was elected to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He enjoyed both popular and financial success, living in Hampstead for many years before moving to Italy in the early 20th century, where he remained until his death in 1937.
