Painter, born in Leeds, who attended the High School there. He acquired his artistic training studying with Gilbert Foster and also studied printmaking and pottery design. Although Bowen painted on the continent, he was particularly known for his views of Yorkshire, for he settled in Leeds and established his own school of painting there. Also illustrated books. After World War II he was president of RCamA for a number of years, exhibiting with it prolifically, also with Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and RA and ROI. Several northern public galleries, including Leeds, Rotherham and Rochdale, hold his work.
