Designated as being of national significance, Wiltshire Museum has the best Bronze Age collections in the country, including material from Stonehenge and Avebury. There is an important research library and art collection relating to the history and archaeology of Wiltshire, as well as galleries telling the history of the county and active art exhibition and education programmes.
The Museum has fascinating displays telling Wiltshire's story, including Roman treasure and agricultural history. A new gallery tells the story of Devizes, and a Saxon Gallery is also soon to be opened. 500,000 years of Wiltshire’s story are told in a brand new £750,000 gallery featuring high-quality graphics and leading-edge reconstructions. On display for the first time are dozens of spectacular treasures dating to the time of Stonehenge and worn by people who worshipped inside the stone circle. There is lots for children too, who can follow Archie and Ollie on a gallery trail, build Stonehenge, examine the evidence under a microscope and try on Bronze Age clothes.
Wiltshire Museum won the 2014 ‘Attraction of the Year Award’ from the Wiltshire Life Magazine.
