Southwark Council has two heritage venues and cares for five collections. The venues are Southwark Archives, based at John Harvard Library on Borough High Street and Southwark Heritage Centre, based within Walworth Library on Walworth Road. The latter opened in 2001 and showcases the borough's art and museum collections. The council's five collections are: the archives and local history material of the borough; the Cuming bequest collection, the museum collection, the Southwark art collection and the South London Gallery art collection.
Most of these collections are in storage. However, you can access the archives and local history material via Southwark Archives, and you can access the rest via the heritage collections team at Southwark council. You can also see some of the art and museum collections at the Southwark Heritage Centre. Some of the collection is online via our collections portal heritage.southwark.gov.uk

The Cuming Museum collection is housed at the Cuming Museum. There are two permanent galleries. The first showcases the Cuming family collection and the second tells the story of Southwark and its communities. The third gallery is a temporary exhibition space where objects from the collection are rotated. A number of objects from the collection are also on loan to other museums in the UK.
