Old Gala House

Scottish Borders Council

More about

Dating back to 1583, former home of the Lairds of Gala, this important building bears the fascinating trace of historic change: from the painted, wooden-panelled ceiling dating from 1635 to the ornate eighteenth-century plaster ceiling in the Christopher Boyd Gallery, which hosts a changing programme of art exhibitions. Throughout the house, displays of local history, including a room dedicated to Thomas Clapperton – the well renowned Border sculptor.
