James Fitton
1899–1982
Painter, advertising and poster designer, draughtsman and printmaker, born in Oldham, Lancashire, where he was educated at a board school. Was apprenticed as a calico designer in Manchester where for some years he attended the School of Art part-time, getting to know the painter L S Lowry.
