Dr Peter Forsaith has researched images of John Wesley for 30 years, and published a comprehensive and critical survey, Image, Identity and John Wesley: A Study in Portraiture (Routledge, 2018). He is a historian of culture, religion and society in eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Britain, and is Research Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Methodism and Church History at Oxford Brookes University.

He has curated exhibitions and also researched and published in other historical areas, including architecture and male sexuality. He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. His career has been varied, much spent in catering. His interests include food, swimming, motorcycling, trains, antique furniture and silver tableware.
