Aila Schafer is a researcher and historian based in the Highlands. She studied European Literature at Marburg and Durham Universities, before completing her Masters by Research at the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Subsequently, she became the curator of Clan Macpherson Museum, where she embraced the museum as a place for learning, curiosity and creativity. She developed a special exhibition on agentic nature, incorporating different forms of visual arts, and created a cultural programme centred around oral and regional traditions. Through this and her research, she dealt with counter-narratives and marginalised voices in exhibition spaces.

Encouraged by her museum work, research and her own Roma heritage, she started Landscape Lore, an organisation offering tours and talks that embrace storytelling and its connection to the natural environment, as well as consultancy work. With a strong focus on social justice and sustainability, she aims to foster diversity, inclusivity and responsible cultural representation in the cultural sector.
