Naval and other small boats at Yarmouth Jetty, with a Royal Naval squadron under a vice-admiral, and other shipping, lying offshore in Yarmouth Roads. The flagship is a two-decker, probably a 74-gun ship. A frigate, several cutters and a large number of merchant brigs are also shown at anchor, and a large merchantman (?) under sail. Most of the nearest boats are naval, holding officers and men, but one is disembarking civilians onto the jetty. The naval personnel appear to be embarking supplies including baskets of green vegetables. Some of the army men shown are wearing non-standard or 'off-duty' elements of uniform. The Scottish infantry officer in the plumed and chequered cap should be wearing a kilt, not white breeches, and his colleague to the right should not be in blue or black ones. These details, however, suggest La Cave recorded curiosities that he saw. He has also signed the picture 'La Cave 1803' on the kit-bag, lower right.
