William Hutchison Leask began his own shipbroker and commission agent business in 1875. He later became the manager and one of the largest shareholders of the Peterhead Trawling Company; he sold his firm in 1911. He entered Peterhead Town Council in 1885, became a bailie in 1893 and provost in 1899.
