A wave of metal rises up through the stone, rising up out of the artwork towards the future. The metal seemingly breaking the stone panels in two, symbolising the new face of the town being built on the dreams and wishes of the community. It is one of three artworks of a similar design in different sizes ad with different texts, produced by Hughes, which are sited in the George Street Quarter of St Helens. They aimed to depict St Helens at the start of the new millennium as a forward-thinking borough with a rich heritage. Hughes brought together natural and man-made materials of stone and metal. The inscriptions record the spirit and voices of the community in the past and present.
