in raised lettering on the upper plaque on the front of the pedestal: ERECTED IN HONOUR / OF THE / MEN OF BRIDGNORTH / WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 / AND TO THE / EVER GLORIOUS MEMORY / OF THOSE WHO FELL; and on a plaque below that: ALSO TO THE MEMORY / OF THOSE WHO FELL IN / THE SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939-1945; and on a plaque on the back of the pedestal: THEY WHOSE NAMES ARE RECORDED / HEREON WERE NUMBERED AMONG THOSE / WHO AT THE CALL OF KING & COUNTRY / LEFT ALL THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM, / ENDURED HARDNESS, FACED DANGER & / FINALLY PASSED OUT OF THE SIGHT OF / MEN BY THE PATH OF DUTY AND SELF- / SACRIFICE, GIVING UP THEIR OWN LIVES / THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM / LET THOSE WHO COME / AFTER SEE TO IT THAT / THEY BE NOT FORGOTTEN.
