Lisa Kelly McNairn: 'The idea of chaos and order is the leading theme behind my work. Starting from an original shape I begin a journey of continuous changes and reassessments. It is the process of action and reaction which leads the original shape to different stages of transformation and finally to a stage of rest. In my recent work I have investigated the process of repetition that is visible in fabric patterns and in architecture. The negative space between windows or gaps in woven fabric has found an echo in my constant marks or sudden holes. Furthermore, "empty" and "full" have become recurrent motifs in my work. The idea of change is further explored by the translation of marks, discovered during my mark-making process, into sculptural shapes.
